Plasma nanotextured polymer surfaces with tailored wetting properties and superior performance in protein/cell immobilization

چکیده
In our work, plasma processing is employed to create microand/or nanotextures on different polymeric surfaces. By appropriate tuning of plasma conditions, either random or ordered hierarchical structures of high aspect ratio and surface area can be created in a very repeatable manner. Such plasma treated polymeric surfaces have been evaluated as substrates for controlling efficiently the wettability, biomolecule immobilization, and cell adhesion, paving the way to a wide spectrum of applications.

The Study of Collagen Immobilization on a Novel Nanocomposite to Enhance Cell Adhesion and Growth
Background: Surface properties of a biomaterial could be critical in determining biomaterial’s biocompatibility due to the fact that the first interactions between the biological environment and artificial materials are most likely occurred at material’s surface. In this study, the surface properties of a new nanocomposite (NC) polymeric material were modified by combining plasma treatment and...
متن کاملΜflu12-133 Control of Flow and Protein Adsorption on Plasma Nanotextured Polymeric Microfluidics
Plasma processing is demonstrated as a generic technology to fabricate, roughen, control the wetting properties, create well controlled passive hydrophobic valves, and finally also control the protein adsorption in polymeric microfluidic channels. Lithography and deep anisotropic O2 plasma etching directly on polymeric substrates were utilized to pattern microchannels, at conditions where very ...
متن کاملTailoring anisotropic wetting properties on submicrometer-scale periodic grooved surfaces.
The use of simple plasma treatments and polymer deposition to tailor the anisotropic wetting properties of one-dimensional (1D) submicrometer-scale grooved surfaces, fabricated using interferometric lithography in photoresist polymer films, is reported. Strongly anisotropic wetting phenomena are observed for as-prepared 1D grooved surfaces for both positive and negative photoresists. Low-pressu...
متن کاملNanotextured polymer substrates show enhanced cancer cell isolation and cell culture.
Detection of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in the early stages of cancer is a great challenge because of their exceedingly small concentration. There are only a few approaches sensitive enough to differentiate tumor cells from the plethora of other cells in a sample like blood. In order to detect CTCs, several antibodies and aptamers have already shown high affinity. Nanotexture can be used to...
متن کاملPlasma Methods for the Generation of Chemically Reactive Surfaces for Biomolecule Immobilization and Cell Colonization - A Review
Plasma-based approaches have gained considerable popularity for the creation of surfaces designed to be in contact with biological environments (‘bio-interfaces’). Many studies have been reported using various approaches and process gases. Initially a number of studies explored the potential of plasma-produced surfaces or coatings to control bio-interfacial interactions. More recently, the majo...
